Perched dramatically above the Arno on a hilltop south of the Oltrarno, this imposing Renaissance fortress commands sweeping views across Florence's terracotta rooftops to the distant Tuscan hills. Built by the Medici family as both a defensive stronghold and a symbol of power, the fort's geometric bastions and austere stone walls tell stories of Florence's tumultuous past. Today it serves as an open-air museum hosting contemporary art installations alongside its historic military architecture.
