Portico d'Ottavia

This beautifully preserved columned portico in the Jewish Ghetto once sheltered temples dedicated to Juno Regina and Jupiter Stator, along with a library that served ancient Rome's intellectual elite. Walking through its remaining columns today connects you directly to the grandeur of Emperor Augustus, whose sister Octavia gave the structure its name and patronage. The site's intimate setting within the medieval ghetto creates a poignant layering of Rome's complex history across two millennia.
